For Ryan Packard, homebuilding is more than a profession. It’s a family tradition that stretches back three generations.
The Packard family’s history in construction began with Ryan’s grandfather, who became one of Washington’s largest homebuilders in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After selling his company, he passed his building knowledge and experience on to the next generation. Ryan’s father became a builder, as did several of his uncles. Today, Ryan is a third-generation builder and the only grandson to continue the family’s homebuilding tradition.
The family’s connection to Kittitas County runs just as deep. In the early 1980s, Ryan’s grandfather purchased a large ranch in Ellensburg, where the family raised cattle and thoroughbred horses, grew alfalfa, and continued building homes throughout the Kittitas Valley. Over the years, the Packard family became a significant part of the area’s residential construction community.
Ryan continues both sides of that family legacy. In addition to West Ridge Home Construction, he operates West Ridge R&R Ranch, the more than 100-acre family ranch passed down from his grandfather. Cattle, horses, and hay remain part of life on the ranch today, keeping Ryan connected to the agricultural community and the land his family has called home for decades.
That history shapes the way West Ridge Home Construction does business. Ryan isn’t a builder who comes into the area for a project and leaves when the job is finished. He lives here, works here, raises livestock here, and has deep family roots in the community. West Ridge Home Construction is led by Ryan and Rachael Packard. As a locally based company, our team brings a personal approach to residential construction, with direct communication and careful attention to each project.
Ryan got his start in construction at just 12 years old, sweeping houses before moving into framing, concrete flatwork, foundations, and other aspects of residential construction. His entrepreneurial experience also started early, including launching his own landscaping business at age 23. Today, he brings that hands-on background and his family’s building tradition to every West Ridge project.
Rachael plays an equally important role behind the scenes and in the finished homes. In addition to managing the company’s books, she handles the interior design for West Ridge homes, helping select the finishes and details that give each property its distinctive character.
Outside of construction, Ryan and Rachael are raising four children in the Kittitas Valley while operating West Ridge R&R Ranch, where they are active in the agricultural lifestyle that has long shaped their family. For the Packards, building a business and raising a family in Ellensburg go hand in hand with being part of the community.
